Currently used as the west course on Rancho Cañada Golf Club, the 72-acre Rancho Cañada Village will restore, enhance and permanently dedicate 36 acres of the site as a natural habitat park. Located between the homes and the Carmel Valley River, the natural park will be publicly accessible through designated trails. An existing river bridge will be dedicated to provide the final link of the County’s planned regional Carmel Valley Trail system.

The natural habitat park will assist in bringing back the area to it’s natural environment. The natural habitat park will be established by removing existing golf sod and non-native trees and replaced with seasonal ponds, native plant and tree species. Construction of the park will be phased and designed to avoid potential impacts to sensitive species, especially nesting birds, steelhead fish and other possible rare amphibians.

Additionally, improved park areas will provide the neighborhood with active and passive recreational opportunities. Planned as neighborhood serving parks, they will include tot lots, benches, play fields and other amenities to be located within the central area of the neighborhood as well as adjacent to the natural habitat park. All of the parks will be within easy walking distance to the homes.
